Where the data comes from

Location, provider and network details come from a commercial IP geolocation database. Reverse DNS is resolved live. We cache each address for 30 days and refresh it after that, because network registrations change hands.

How accurate it is

Country is right almost all the time. City is right most of the time on fixed connections and considerably less on mobile and satellite. Coordinates point at the centre of the registered area, not at a building. Treat everything below country level as an estimate.

What we store

We store the address you look up and the data we retrieved for it, so the next person asking about it gets an instant answer. We don't attach it to an account or a profile. See the privacy policy.
