VPN.lat has free servers in Ireland. No account, no email, no card, no data cap. You download the app, pick Ireland and you have an Irish IP.
Ireland has an advantage almost nobody mentions when they talk about VPN servers: Dublin hosts an enormous concentration of data centres, because so many technology companies run their European infrastructure there. That means the route from Ireland to the United States is one of the best in Europe — better than from much of the continent. If you work with services hosted in the US, this server will surprise you.

Where the Irish server genuinely wins
Transatlantic routing. Said above, and it's the main technical argument. Those submarine cables exist because the data centres demand them.
European routing via London. Traffic from Ireland to continental Europe typically goes through London, which is itself one of the world's biggest exchange points. So the path is usually clean even if it isn't short.
An Irish IP for Irish services. Banking, government portals and broadcast services that block foreign connections work again.
An EU IP. Ireland is in the European Union, which matters for any service that distinguishes between inside and outside the Union — and since Brexit, Ireland is the English-speaking EU member, which makes it genuinely useful for that specific purpose.
Gaming: honest expectations
In competitive games ping is the only thing about your connection that decides matches, not bandwidth.
Most European game servers are on the continent — Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, London — so your game traffic leaves the island. The Irish VPN server helps when your provider is routing badly toward those destinations, not because it's in Ireland.
And a very Irish problem worth naming, because it affects a lot of people here: if you live in a shared house, the problem is probably your housemates, not your provider. Six people streaming at once saturates any connection, and no VPN creates bandwidth. If your ping only collapses when people are home, you now know what it is.
Measure before and after. It's free, so testing costs nothing.
Throttling versus congestion
Throttling gets blamed for a lot; congestion is the real culprit most of the time. In the evening the local node is full and ping spikes even though nothing changed in your house.
Telling them apart is easy. If only the game is bad while everything else is fine, and the VPN fixes it, it was routing. If everything is bad at the same time every evening, it's congestion and a VPN won't fix it.
Privacy: what this changes and what it doesn't
Ireland is in the EU, so it applies the European data protection standard, including the obligations that framework places on telecommunications providers. It isn't an exotic privacy jurisdiction and we're not going to sell it as one.
With a VPN on, your provider sees one encrypted connection to a server — not the sites, not the searches, not the apps. And on our side: we keep no activity logs. There's no history of your connections for anyone to request, because we don't create one. That's the part that actually matters.
What it doesn't do:
It doesn't make you anonymous once you log in. The IP changes; your account doesn't.
It doesn't stop ad tracking by itself. Cookies and browser fingerprinting keep working.
It doesn't make anything legal that wasn't, and it doesn't protect you from downloading something malicious.
School, university and office networks
University, language school and office networks filter game ports, Discord and sometimes much more. It isn't personal: someone is managing bandwidth.
An encrypted tunnel means the filter sees a connection to a server rather than game ports. Technically, it works.
Honestly: if it's your employer's, your college's or your language school's network, there's an acceptable use policy you almost certainly agreed to on enrolment, and getting round a filter can have consequences. That's your call, informed.
Public Wi-Fi, which matters a lot in Dublin
Ireland — Dublin especially — has an enormous population living off café and library Wi-Fi: students, language learners, remote workers, people in shared accommodation.
On any open network, someone else connected is in a position to see a good deal of your traffic, and an open network can be misconfigured or simply fake. That includes the shared house Wi-Fi, where the router is managed by whoever set it up and everyone is on the same network.
With the VPN on, everything leaving your device is encrypted from the first hop. If you're about to open your bank or your email, turn it on first. This is the least arguable thing a VPN does.
Streaming, sport and local TV
With an Irish IP, platforms treat you as if you were there, which covers the common case: you have Irish subscriptions and you've travelled, or you're abroad and Irish broadcast and sports services block you for coming from a foreign IP.
If you travel within the EU, cross-border portability of subscriptions covers exactly this situation and is on your side.
Two honest warnings: platforms detect and block VPN IP ranges continuously, so what works this month may stop next month and nobody can promise otherwise. And watching your own content while travelling is usually covered by the terms; manufacturing a permanent residence is not.
Banking and travel
Irish online banking is suspicious of foreign logins, and with good reason: it's exactly the pattern of fraud. From abroad you get extra verification, cut sessions or no entry. Revenue and other government portals behave differently or fail from a foreign IP too.
An Irish IP makes the session look normal and the task goes through.
Two things worth saying. If you're going to be away for a while, tell your bank: the IP isn't the only signal they read — they have your device and your usage pattern too. And never log into your bank on the house Wi-Fi, the college network or café Wi-Fi without the VPN on.
