Free VPN for Georgia

VPN.lat has free servers in Georgia — the country in the Caucasus, between Turkey, Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. No account, no email, no card, no data cap.

Georgia has an interesting profile on this list: it's become a destination for digital nomads and entrepreneurs because of its residency and company-formation regime, and it's the natural network node of the Caucasus.

What a Georgian IP is actually for

Reaching Georgian services from abroad. The most everyday use: residents travelling, or emigrants, whose banking, administrative portals or broadcast services block them on detecting a foreign IP.

Nomads and companies. There are a lot of people with a Georgian company or bank account who don't live there. For them geographic blocking is a recurring nuisance and this server fixes it.

Caucasus routing. If you're in the region, measure it alongside Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. Routes in that area depend heavily on your provider and it's worth not assuming anything.

Geolocation testing from the Caucasus — a region that breaks a fair number of implementations, not least because Georgia has its own script.

What to know about the jurisdiction, and an important caveat

Georgia isn't an EU member, so the European data protection framework doesn't apply directly. It has its own legislation, approximated in part to the European standard through its association process, but it's its own law and its own authority.

In practice: it's a different jurisdiction, not necessarily a more permissive or a more protective one than an EU one.

And a warning worth making given the country's profile: a VPN changes your IP, not your legal or tax situation. If a Georgian bank asks you to verify residence or source of funds, your IP is not what it's evaluating, and using one to appear somewhere you aren't can work against you. With financial services, that isn't theoretical.

What actually matters, as always: what protects you isn't the jurisdiction of the server, it's that the service keeps no records. We keep no activity logs, here and anywhere else we operate.

What a VPN protects, and what it doesn't

What it does:

Your internet provider stops seeing what you visit. It sees an encrypted connection to a server, and nothing else. Not the sites, not the searches, not the apps.

Websites stop seeing your real IP. They see the server's, shared by many users at once.

Public Wi-Fi stops being a problem. Nobody else on the network can read your traffic.

What it doesn't do:

It doesn't make you anonymous once you log in. The IP changes; your account doesn't.

It doesn't clear cookies or browser fingerprints.

It doesn't protect you from downloading something malicious. It encrypts the road; it doesn't inspect the traffic on it.

It doesn't substitute for identity or residence verification. Said above, and here it's the most useful line.

Public Wi-Fi and remote work

Georgia receives a lot of tourism and a lot of remote workers, which means open Wi-Fi in hotels, hostels, cafés and coworking spaces — exactly where the people who chose the country for that work.

On any of those networks, anyone else connected is in a position to see a good deal of your traffic, and an open network can be misconfigured or simply fake. If you're about to open your bank, your email or your company's accounts from a network that isn't yours, turn the VPN on first. If you work remotely from cafés, this isn't optional.

And if your bank is in your home country and blocks you for logging in from a Georgian IP, the server you need is your own country's — check whether it's on the list.
